COACH, RIDER, ATHLETE

Ty has been riding since the age of 6 years old. Born and raised on a farm near Killam, AB and originally a western horsemanship/reining fanatic-Ty began his hunter/jumper education at the age of 13. Throughout highschool and university, Ty trained with top local trainers while bringing along and selling multiple young horse projects on the hunter/jumper circuit. While in university, Ty worked as a young horse rider and groom for one of western Canada’s top sales barns, Valleyfield Farm. During this time he gained exposure to top level FEI competitions and added valuable horse training and management skills.

In 2016 Ty began working for Spruce Meadows as a groom and exercise rider where he furthered his knowledge in horse management and exposure to training at the top level. During his time at Spruce Meadows, Ty was a groom for several FEI 2-5* competitions throughout North America and Europe. Ty has an integrated, holistic approach to the sport combining horse health, care and management with regular gymnastic/polework and dressage schooling to create a well-educated and prepared athlete.  Ty is down to earth and passionate about developing young horses and riders for the hunter/jumper divisions giving them a solid foundation and education to move on and be successful in the sport. Ty is seeking his EC certification (post pandemic) and is a lifelong student of the sport continually taking in top level clinics, shows, and training opportunities.
